The Story of McManus Roofing LLC
McManus Roofing was founded in 1931 by John McManus, a World War I veteran. Nearly a century later the business is still in the same family: it is run today by Dennis and Rory O'Connor, the third and fourth generations to take it on.
Not many trades businesses last that long, and the ones that do tend to last for unglamorous reasons — doing what was quoted, showing up when you said you would, and not selling people a roof they did not need. That is the whole model here.
The company operates from 22 Maiese Ave in Waterford Works, NJ, and covers South Jersey across Camden, Burlington, Gloucester and Atlantic Counties, along with the Lower Bucks County area in Pennsylvania. Calls are answered Monday to Friday 8am to 10pm and weekends 8am to 8pm, because roofs do not fail on a weekday schedule.
The work itself is shaped by what South Jersey weather does to a roof: humid summers that cook shingles and drive moisture into badly ventilated attics, winter freeze-thaw that opens seams and forms ice dams at the eaves, and the nor'easters and summer storm lines that take shingles off in between. Most of what we repair traces back to one of those three.
Dennis and Rory O'Connor are the third and fourth generations of the family to run McManus Roofing, which John McManus founded in 1931.

What South Jersey Homeowners Say
“After a summer storm my asphalt shingles lifted along the south edge and water started dripping near the skylight. McManus Roofing removed the damaged section, replaced the underlayment and matched the existing shingles so the patch blends in. The attic stayed dry through the next three rains.”
“A tree branch tore a hole in my garage roof during high winds. They cut back the overhanging limb, installed new plywood and ice-and-water shield, then flashed the repair into the existing ridge vent. No more daylight visible from inside the garage.”
“My 20-year-old roof was leaking at the valley where two slopes meet. McManus Roofing tore out the rotted decking, added new step flashing and installed a wider valley metal that directs water better. The ceiling stain has not returned since the fix.”
